Australien: Männerfeindliche Reklame muss zurückgezogen werden

Ein Konzept, das für den deutschen Werberat noch komplett unverständlich ist (Männer herabsetzende Reklame), wird in Australien bereits begriffen. Deshalb muss dort jetzt nach Beschwerden zahlreicher Zuschauer ein Werbespot zurückgezogen werden, der sich über Männer mit vorzeitiger Ejakulation lustig macht. Die ABC News berichten.

Mothers are being forced to pay tens of thousands of dollars to men who paid child support over decades but were wrongly named as fathers. The payouts follow a contentious reform of child-support laws.

In the biggest case, Queensland man Ken Rodgers obtained orders for the repayment of $60,000 after making child-support contributions for a decade to a woman who refused to send him even a photograph of his alleged child.

The Rudd Government will develop Australia’s first ever National Men’s Health Policy – in recognition of the fact that men often have poorer health than women, are likely to die earlier, and are at greater risk of suicide.

To mark the start of International Men’s Health Week, Minister for Health Nicola Roxon is launching the paper Setting the scene: developing a men’s health policy for Australia.

As an initial downpayment on a broader approach, the Government will invest:

- $ 460,000 to help prevent suicide in men, through the National Suicide Prevention Strategy

- $ 95,000 to encourage men to see their GP

Men’s health is too often overlooked. This comes at a cost. We know that:

- Men are expected to live 4.8 years less than women

- Men are three times more likely to commit suicide

- Men experience 70 per cent of the burden of disease related to injury

- Men are over-represented in deaths related to HIV/AIDS.

The health of Indigenous men is also significantly worse than for any other group in Australia, with an average life expectancy of only 59 years – some 20 years less than non-Indigenous Australian males.

The Government’s decision to develop a National Men’s Health Policy recognises that men have specific health needs and challenges. (…)

Men’s health deserves attention. Over the next twelve months, the Government will develop a comprehensive men’s health policy. We want to know what men consider to be the priorities for their health, and we want to look at how we can build up the evidence base in this area, including opportunities for research over the long term.

Das ist doch mal ein internationales Zusammenspiel: Zum selben Zeitpunkt, zu dem MANNdat eine Pressemitteilung zum Thema "männliche Opfer von häuslicher Gewalt" herausgibt, tut eine australische Männergruppe auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite der Erdkugel dasselbe. Darin heißt es unter anderem:

"This Sunday is White Ribbon Day (WRD) and the start of the 16 Days of Activism to Stop Violence Against Women. However the 2005 Personal Safety Australia survey found that in the past 12 months almost twice as many men as women (808,300) were victims of all types of violence; twice as many men as women (485,400) were victims of physical assault; nearly a third of sexual assault victims were men; 864,300 men were harassed and 110,700 men were stalked. The same study found that men were almost as likely as women to experience physical violence within the home (half from females, half from males) and were just as likely as women to experience physical violence from perpetrators who were known to them. Yet the WRD campaign focuses solely on the prevention of violence against women by men.

An international coalition of professionals and academics has come out in unequivocal support of anti-violence initiatives, but is concerned that this annual spotlight on violence against women tends to conceal the fact that males are far more likely than females to be assaulted or killed and make up a significant proportion of victims of domestic violence. They are calling on the media to be aware that crime statistics, based on reports to police, are an inaccurate reflection of the extent of domestic violence within the community, as men who are physically assaulted by women are less likely to report it than are women assaulted by men ..."

Australien: Männerrechtler fordern Feststellung der Vaterschaft nach der Geburt

Ähnlich wie die deutsche Männerrechtsgruppe MANNdat fordern auch australische Männerrechtler einen verpflichtenden Test der Vaterschaft bei allen Neugeborenen. Der Sydney Morning Herald berichtet:

MEN'S groups are calling for mandatory paternity testing of all newborns as it emerges a record number of men are finding they are not the fathers of children they believed to be theirs.

Almost a quarter of paternity tests conducted by one of Australia's largest DNA laboratory companies show the man submitting a sample is not the father, compared to an estimated one in 10 "exclusions" 10 years ago.

The number of tests taken in Australia has doubled from 3000 in 2003 to more than 6000 last year.

Thousands of men are turning to DIY testing kits - available online - to discover whether they are the biological father while they are still in a relationship and without telling their partners about their suspicions.

Some have brought up children to adulthood or paid tens of thousands of dollars in maintenance to the Child Support Agency (CSA) before finding out they have no genetic link.
Men's Rights Agency co-director Sue Price said: "People's lives are being ruined by this. It is not just the men, it's the children who grow up thinking one person is their father and then find out it's someone else.

"In the future, more and more health treatments are going to be based on genetic technology, so it is going to be even more important to know who your biological father is.

"Mandatory testing would get rid of all these problems."

Santas in Australia's largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday. Sydney's Santa Clauses have instead been instructed to say "ha ha ha" instead, the Daily Telegraph reported. One disgruntled Santa told the newspaper a recruitment firm warned him not to use "ho ho ho" because it could frighten children and was too close to "ho", a US slang term for prostitute.

Der englische Ausdruck "whore" – "Hure" - wird insbesondere im Slang der Schwarzen gerne zu "ho" reduziert. Wieviele australische Kinder den Slang mancher Afro-Amerikaner beherrschen, bleibt unklar.
