USA: 30 Prozent Anstieg bei betrunkenen Autofahrerinnen

The war of the sexes has women closing in on men in a not-so-flattering category: drunken driving.

According to the federal government and lawyers who defend driving-under-the-influence cases, the courts are witnessing a rise in drunken driving cases involving women. Over the last decade, FBI statistics say, the absolute number of women arrested for drunken driving jumped nearly 30 percent. (…)

No surprise for Los Angeles DUI attorney Lawrence Taylor of the Law Offices of Lawrence Taylor, who wrote the book "Drunk Driving Defense". He has long seen this coming. "This isn't something that happened in the last few months. This has been going on as a steady phenomenon for a number of years," Taylor said. The last few years in particular, he added, noting that women now account for up to 40 percent of his firm's clientele.

His theory? "As women are more liberated and take part in the workplace more and are less focused on the home, they are exposed to more pressures and will turn to things like alcohol, as men have always done," Taylor said.

Do female drunken driving defendants fare better in the courts? "Theoretically, no. In practice, of course," Taylor said, noting that some judges are a little more reluctant to throw a woman with children in jail.

England: Zahl der gewalttätigen Komasäuferinnen um 300 Prozent zugenommen

Violent attacks by binge-drinking teenage girls have risen by nearly 300 per cent in seven years in a frightening wave of ‘ladette’ violence. And while more and more teenage girls are going on the rampage, criminal behaviour by teenage boys is on the decrease.

The extraordinary turnaround in teenage lawlessness emerges in figures that have been obtained by the highly respected Youth Justice Board. It claims that new research suggests the number of violent offences against the person carried out by girls aged between ten and 17 has increased from 6,000 in 2001 to almost 23,000 last year. (...)

If the trends were to continue, the number of crimes by teenage girls could catch up with their male counterparts in four to five years.

Wenn Genderama regelmäßig das Fehlverhalten von Angehörigen des vermeintlich höherwertigen Geschlechts thematisieren würde, käme ich zu nichts anderem mehr. Bei besonders kuriosen Fällen kann ich mich allerdings nicht zurückhalten, darüber zu berichten:

A plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Germany after two British women tried to open a cabin door mid-flight, police have said.

The women, aged 26 and 27, were drinking heavily and had to be held in their seats by security staff until the plane landed in Frankfurt. They were arrested and released after two hours, Frankfurt police said. (…)

An airline spokeswoman said the women were thought to have been smoking in the plane's toilet, and were suspected of bringing their own alcohol on board. She said they had started to swear at and threaten staff who refused to sell them any more alcohol from the bar.

The women had then said they wanted to open the door to get "some fresh air" into the plane. "Their language was totally unacceptable, as was their behaviour. They were very abusive and threatening," the spokeswoman said.

Plakataktion für englische Frauen: Kampftrinken macht hässlich

Women are being warned that binge-drinking will destroy their looks for good.

A new poster campaign launched today on London's Underground depicts a woman with saggy skin and a blotchy nose.

It carries the message: 'If you drink like a man you might end up looking like one.'

The aim is to appeal to women through their vanity by showing they risk bad skin, premature ageing and weight gain if they drink excessively.

Saufen für Sex

Der Schweizer "Blick" berichtet über eine britische Studie zum Thema "Kampftrinken"/"Komasaufen" Ein Auszug:

1341 junge Männer und Frauen aus Wien, Berlin, Athen, Venedig, Lissabon, Palma, Liverpool, Ljub-ljana und Brno legten bei der Untersuchung ihr Sexleben offen. Dabei kam heraus: Die wenigsten saufen aus Spass. Sie bechern mit einem klaren Ziel. Professor Bellis: «Ein Drittel der Männer und ein Viertel der Frauen sind davon überzeugt, dass sie betrunken grössere Chancen auf spontanen Sex haben.» (...) Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass weibliche Nicht-Trinker ihren 16. Geburtstag als «Jungfrauen» erleben, liegt fast sechsmal höher als bei Alkoholkonsumentinnen.

Die Ergebnisse dieser Studie sind insofern nicht ohne Brisanz, weil in England gerade diskutiert wird, ob in einer Erweiterung des "Sexual Offences Act" nicht auch Sex mit einer betrunkenen Frau als Vergewaltigung bestraft werden soll. (Genderama berichtete.)
