Die britische BBC scheint allmählich gefressen zu haben, wogegen sich deutsche Medien noch mit Händen und Füßen sperren. So schickte mir Genderama-Leser S.P. den Link zu diesem Artikel und kopierte mir auch gleich dessen ersten Absatz in die Mail:

Men in England and Wales aged between 20 and 25 are more likely to be victims of domestic violence than women in the same age group. Campaigners claim not enough is being done by the police, social services and the government to tackle the problem.

Als ich die Seite aufrief, hatte aber offenbar ein BBC-Redakteur den Text schon leicht verändert. Nun heißt es dort:

Men in England and Wales aged between 20 and 24 are just as likely to be abused by their partners as women in the same age group. Campaigners claim not enough is being done by the police, social services and the government to tackle the problem.

Die in einer Begleitspalte zitierte Statistik für diese Altersgruppe ist aber anscheinend unverändert geblieben:

6.4% of men in England and Wales between the ages of 20 and 24 say they were victims of abuse in 2008

5.4% of women in the same age group reported being victims of domestic violence

Es ist natürlich auch ein bisschen schnuppe, ob Männer jetzt etwas häufiger, genauso oft oder etwas seltener Opfer von häuslicher Gewalt werden als Frauen. Die Statistiken sind nicht völlig eindeutig. In jedem Fall bleibt die auffällige Diskrepanz bestehen, dass die verantwortlichen Institutionen unserer Gesellschaft für die eine Opfergruppe sehr viel tun, für die andere sehr wenig – und zwar abhängig vom Geschlecht der Opfer und der Täter. So berichtet die BBC in einem weiteren Artikel zu diesem Thema:

Mark Brooks from the men's health charity Mankind reckons the issue of male domestic abuse is often ignored by the government, social services and the police.

"In the UK as a whole there are 500 refuges for female victims and that is probably not enough," he told Newsbeat.

"There are only 12 for male victims. Overall services for men are 35 years behind those available for women and that's simply not good enough."
